Demonstration at the Art Students League
On April 18, students at The Art Students League were fortunate to witness a terrific painting demonstration given by Joe Gyurcsak, Utrecht’s resident artist. Inspired to by the League’s history, Joe opted to focus on a still life in the manner of William Merritt Chase, one of the League’s notable professors. Joe drew his cues from Chase, who was famous for painting dead fish on a plate against a dark background. Freshly purchased from the New Jersey market, Joe immortalized his fish with beauty and grace as students learned the secrets to successful oil painting.
