UTRECHT FARE: Featuring Artist Employees

This month we feature the art of Zachery Hale who hails from Store 4, in the East Village.
My work deals with history, the way we come to terms with ourselves and understand ourselves through a master narrative of history. This master narrative is evoked in my work through literary, cinematic, and documentary sources. Ultimately, it’s fiction, it’s a lie- but it’s the lie we choose to believe.

My favorite Utrecht product is the Gloss Medium- it’s so great and versatile, I’d put it on my cereal if I could.

The Damsels in Distress, 50″x72″, oil and transfer on canvas, 2008- It’s 45 portraits of the character actresses that appeared on “Perry Mason,” the wrongfully accused.

Tie Dye Event

tie-dye-058.jpgtie-dye-083.jpgOn Saturday, June 27, Utrecht sponsored a Tie Dye Event at Store 4 in the East Village.  Each participant had the opportunity to create their own tie dye tee shirt. Demonstration was provided on the variety of twists and folds and application of color. Each person created their own unique version. It was great fun.

Paint In the Street

Painting was in the street at New York City’s 4th Avenue Utrecht store! With a large canvas, an easel, a variety of paint colors, brushes and water; passersby were invited to paint their piece. Young and old, experienced and novice - everyone had a great time making art. The resulting canvas is on view in the store window. painting-031.jpg

Bags for Kentler

kentler-2166.jpgOn May 14, the Kentler International Drawing Space located in Red Hook, Brooklyn, held their 7th Annual Benefit and Silent Auction. They were able to raise more than $24,000 through the donations of works of art by 157 artists. Those fragile works of art were brought home in good condition, thanks to the donation of 150 plastic bags from Utrecht.
